These stunning pieces of painted folk art are true cultural treasures, carefully crafted by artisans from the Chichicastenango region, located in the southern part of the Quiché Department, Guatemala. Each of these masterpieces is hand-carved using traditional techniques passed down through generations, and then meticulously painted with fine detail to replicate the animals that inhabit the biodiversity of the Mayan biosphere.

The creation process begins with hand-carving the wood, followed by a careful curing process in a traditional oven to ensure durability and strength. Afterward, the pieces are painted with vibrant, long-lasting wood dyes, enhancing their beauty and ensuring their vivid colors stand out.

Each of these benches is unique in design and represents an important part of Guatemala’s rich cultural heritage.
