Izote

In Guatemala, the izote flower is eaten, used as a living fence, and grows where other plants cannot: in the poorest soil, under the harshest sun. In a single plant, what nourishes and what endures come together. This candle recalls that flower, in shape and in duality.

The fire that lights them predates the wax itself. In Maya spirituality it is the way to communicate with the Creator, once offered as ocote pine, today held in wax.
